Bottom Fishing From Boat
Smallmouth Bass

Met up with AMX early in the morning at Sammamish. Overcast morning.

I pulled up on the east shoreline and started with a topwater. 3rd cast in, fish on! It jumped a couple of times and I see it's a small LMB. Another jump and lure pops off.

Not much action for me on the topwater, so I switch up with a swimbait and the dropshot.

I saw a splash right next to a mooring boat, then I saw a few furry heads pop up in the boat. A family of Otters is getting cozy in there, lol. The mom or pop kept watching me. After about 15 mins of fishing the shoreline, I saw 4 of them swimming by. Apparently my camera phone takes pretty crappy pictures if I try to use the zoom on it. Sorry about that.

Feel a light tap on the DS, set the hook and it feels pretty solid. 2.24# SMB. That's a good start. No more bites in the area, so I boated to the west shoreline. Starting catching small SMB there. 1# and smaller.

It was time to meet up with AMX at farthole to see how things are going. He's having the same issue starting off. Nothing big, must small ones too. We start making some casts around fart hole. I'm throwing a topwater near the shoreline. No bites. Switch to DS into slightly deeper water. caught a small SMB. Then I get a decent bite and hookset. After a second or 2, it pops off. Bummer. I see AMX catching a few in even deeper water. I somehow managed to hook a perch the same size as my lure. You could barely feel the fish as I was reeling it back in.

It's quite breezy and now we're in a drizzly mist. Getting everything wet and slippery. With the wind, it was chilly! But you could feel the warmth in the air whenever the wind slowed down, which wasn't often enough.

Heading south along the shoreline. Caught a small SMB on a swimbait in shallow water next to a dock. Start moving out into deeper water and see some bait fish on sonar on deep point. Spent some time there. Caught 2. One of them just hit 2.00#. Saw another fishing line hanging out of it's mouth. Looked down and I see what appears to be a pointy jighead with maybe a remnants of a tube or maybe grub type lure.

Looked to see if I could remove the hook, but there's no way without doing serious damage to the fish. So I just clipped the line and hopefully the setup will pass through the fish. No wonder this fish is skinny....

Working way down and caught several more small SMB.

Only 2 bass at 2# or greater. A couple in the 1.25-1.5# range. And quite a few 1# and below. Tough finding anything of size.

Bumped into 2 older gentlemen at the ramp in the StarCraft, and they had the same issue. Lots of small SMB.

It was a fun day. Great to talk with you for awhile. That other lake sounds like a good idea soon. Had to go to my home lake today to get a biggie.

Otters in the boat.. that can leave a mess! haha. On Goodwin the otters always used to hang on my neighbors floating dock early morning. They'd always leave lots of droppings that look like crawdad sausage.... hahaha
