This was really a tryout of the new motors and maybe catch something. I had my grandson with me. Big motor started. Great. Turned the fish finder on. Nothing. Tried the downriggers. Nothing. Bilge pump, lights, horn. Nothing. Well this will be great. Don’t know what depth I will be in, if there are any schools (perch), how fast this newer (used) smaller outboard goes or how deep I am fishing.
We bait up and start trolling with the new Riptide Ulterra. I got 2 bites. After about an hour we both wanted to go in. My grandson did get to see the air plane take off and a sail boat that was launching when we came in. We fished about an hour quitting at 10:30am.
I don’t have a very good outlook of the boat service at Cabela’s. I had them do the installs because that is where the guy I bought the outboard motor from was having it taken off. Plus my electric motor and charger were shipped to the Lacey Cabela’s. Seemed like it would be better just having it all done there.
Got it back really fast. Only $20 over what they said because of an extra part (no labor) that was because something about a screw and rubbing the positive lead…when I got home the 2 new batteries for the 24 volt system had slid forward breaking off the GPS wire. I had wanted the batteries belted to the backboard by the charger instead of being screwed to the floor. The tech didn’t want to do that so he left the trays loose. I took it back and he was going to make me leave it and I told him the Service Manager said that it would be done while I waited. He got in and did it in about 10 minutes.
So this new problem of no power to electronics. I called the Service Manager who said I could bring it right in and they would look at it. But I was on the water…I just took it home and texted the guy who put the boat together and between pictures on the phone and texting we figured out the tech never hooked up the negative wire coming to the fuse box that holds my accessories, lights, horn, bilge, etc. etc. So I have to fix that, which I can do. Better than taking it back to Cabela’s. Just hoping the rest of the install on my boat was better.
