We have fished for four days at Sekiu, and caught a total of 64 Coho Salmon, sounds good don't it....NOT..... There was only 3 total hatchery fish involved to this point, in some ways really disappointing but still have had fun. I have never seen so many native fish of such good size, some in the mid teens, but a real lack of hatchery fish. Most of the people I have talked to have had the same experience with most native and small amount of hatchery fish, but its still fun waiting for the next bite. Over 50 of our fish came on Brads cut plug super bait with tuna, the good colors have been watermelon and blue and green, also mini plug red head and white body,,,,,,,

We are going over to CQ next week. My personal opinion, releasing unmarked Coho is not for the purpose of protecting wild fish. It is to give the Tribes more Coho to catch in their nets. It used to be done to protect wild Coho but not anymore. Thats why Area 10 was changed this year to releasing unmarked Coho. 8&9 are closed this year. But in years past prob 80% of the Coho we caught in 8 and 9 where unmarked. Makes no sense. There is an issue with Coho runs in the Dungeness but not in rivers in the 8, 9 and 10 areas. There are no Coho runs in the 8, 9 and 10 areas subject to ESA. I wouldn't say the WDFW is lazy, more like crooked.

This Stilly is all Native, Snohomish mixed. The Tulalip hatchery is known for NOT making fish or all there fish, this isn't a big secret any more. This year is a BIG return on the King run as they were letting a lot more go than they were suppose to. Last few years lots of our fish in area 9 were not marked and you can look at them and see there not a Native. Size, scales and so on. Damn shame the Egg Heads won't give a go on releasing a SHIT TON more fish from hatcheries isn't it. I have friends in the fishery system and the politics of it all is maddening. RANT..

A non clipped fish if off limits to rec's, swims in a net and is bonked, dead and sold. There is no incentive to clip fish from Tribal run hatcheries and the Cowboys really don't care much more. The rec's get yanked by the jewels and the spin is it's all on the up and up.. Look at how many hatcheries the tribes are slowly taking over, supposedly because of budget shortfalls.

Back 14-15 years ago, Norm Dicks put in a law that any hatchery who gets federal funds (which is all of them including the tribes) has to fin clip. But now nobody tries to enforce that law. Dicks knew how to deal with the tribes but he retired and all these other politicians wont do anything. The tribes want us off the water, simple as that.
