I took a short hike in to my favorite brook trout lake, and also bushwhacked to find another one. I had no luck on anything but a dry fly, but it was nonstop once I tied one on. Most of the brook trout were still skinny, as the ice just melted off a couple weeks ago. They also had some pretty neat spawning colors. Overall pretty small fish, but I caught one about 12 inches. It was a fun way to spend the afternoon!

Neat--o... Were you casting from shore, or did you pack a float tube with you?

Just walking the shoreline and sight casting at brookies cruising around in the shallows, but a float tube would have been a blast.

They were mostly surfacing 20-30 yards and out from shore, so it may have been better fishing as well.

Bran weeds, I feel like I know this lake, and possible the one you bushwhacked to, but I don't want to blow up your secret lake online.
If you want to PM me, I'd love to share an awesome alpine lake with you, that you are able to drive 10 miles to, and then the walk in is only 5 min. You can carry a float tube, kayak, etc. Great lake.
I wasn't able to find your name within the general forum, so not easy to PM you. I think though you can do so now from my message here.

Looks a little like Sundown lake above lake quinault except it's full of rainbows and it's an 8 1'2 mile hike. Few people know of it but it boasts rainbows 10" to 22". Tried spinners and worms but it was like they never seen a worm. You couldn't keep a fly in the water more than 2 seconds without a hit. of course it's been several years since I was able to make the hike. It's a sparsely marked trail off graves creek trail. easy to get lost if you don't know the area, more bear and elk than you'll see in a lifetime, both non aggressive.

I have never had a chance to explore and Olympic Mountain lakes, but it sounds pretty similar to most I've seen around the North Cascades. Nothing beats having a nice alpine lake teaming with fish all to yourself. I havnt had as much luck on spinners as I have with flies here either.
