Got to the park a little too early, gate was still locked. Within 5 mins, another rig pulls up next to me at the gate.

Got a little mini scolding by the Parker when he got there. Said "I'm 30 mins early and don't block the gate or trail path. Park at the turning lane if I must."

Whoopsy. I wasn't blocking the gate or path. Vehicle and rig cleared both, but my bad for being early, lol.

Decided to start of on the west side at a point I haven't touched this year. Tried a swimbait in the area, then a jerkbait. Then the dropshot and finally caught a few dinks on the DS. After about 30 mins, started my way up the lake. Working another point and nothing.

Swing by Farthole. Several casts around and I get a solid bite on DS. Yes! Play with it for a bit and get ready to scoop into the net. At boat side with net in water and guiding the fish into the net. All of a sudden, a 2nd SMB comes darting from underneath the boat and almost scuttles into the net with the 2nd fish! LOL. It just barely missed. Almost a 2 for 1. 3.06#. Breaking into the 3# class pretty early, sweet. Then I catch a 2 and a half. 2 and a quarter. A 2ish. Finished with about a 1.5. After no more nibbles, moved on.

Worked a bank with a tube and DS. Catch me some dinks and some slightly bigger at about 1#. And a rock bass.

Moved into deeper water and working a deep point. DS with no bites. Tossed the Carolina rig and landed a 1#er.

Moved back to checking out deep docks with more dinks and to 1#ers. Start to get toasty and thinking about working my way back down. As I'm drifting, I happen to notice fish activity down at about 60'. Saw little arches with a few bigger arches around it. DS down. Felt a couple of quick nips, but no hookups.

It's been a couple of hours now and lets see if Farthole is active again. Landed a few more 1.5-2# with a couple of dinks. Felt like I had a nice fish on the CR, but it popped off. Hard to tell for sure. Bite isn't as active, but a few here and there.

Ok, now it's getting hot out. I start packing up rods, but I see a spot I haven't fished in a while. Might be good in this sun and hot weather. Toss the DS out. Jiggle it back. Feel the bite and set the hook. Felt like a decent fish. I take my time getting it up to the surface and whoa, it's a biggun!!! Does a few darts and rips. Bam into the net! Look at this tank. The gut on it is huge! Must have ate a small child. 4.12#! Boom!

Tally is 1 @ 4#, 1 @ 3#, 5 or 6 @ 2#. A bunch of 1#ers and smaller dinks. Definitely caught more dinks overall though. Not a bad day today. Starting to get spoiled. Only added the photo of the 3 and 4#.

Great report and great day! But you still only gave it a 4 Rating?!?!?!?! On a day you caught a 20" smallie? OMG, I'd rate it a 26.

Lol, well that 4# was on the short side of the scale. If it was closer to the 5 side and with all the other quality fish, sure.

What time did the park ranger arrive? I've been getting there at 6 and it is already open.

I got there at 545 since ive seen it open by 6 when I got there. Curious myself as to just how early they open. He got there at 5:55 that morning. So if you push the envelope of getting there early, don't pull into the driveway . Just wait at the turn lane he said.

What the heck is the 6:30 start time anyway? Every other state park I've used has the launch open 24/7?

Agree. In the summer time, it would be nice if they opened earlier. Especially with this hot weather. Leave before it's too hot.
