8/11/2017 8:25:21 AMI'm feelin' your pain, brother. I had a great day last week with a friend on Sammamish. I thought we were rock stars as in one spot we pulled up six that were about 3 lbs each. Seemed so easy and the bite was super aggressive. I went back this week and nothing in that honey hole. Not one bite! I looked with the underwater camera, and saw some SMB, but all looked to be in that 1 lb size. Maybe someone found the spot and harvested them? Very slow overall and lots of dinks at each spot. My biggest was 13".
Now as for that rig you pulled out- that is exactly what we were fishing with. My friend broke off on a fish and I admonished him for leaving such bad line on his spool. It could be someone else's , but what are the odds they would have a red gamakatsu dropshot hook and a teardrop sinker like that? I still haven't pulled up your rig however.

8/12/2017 12:58:10 PMYa, it was real slow yesterday. Lost one BIG one on the dropshot in one spot where you like to fish, which is close to that spot I mentioned the other day, long dead sticking before she took it. No bites on 3 sides, but the 4th side she took it. Lost a couple on the top water, one good one at the Farthole. Got a pounder Smallie to the left of the other spot like the Farthole, which was farting a little. Then tossed it back thru that area and caught a 1 1/4 Largie. I didn't get to that other-other spot I also mentioned, got too hot by the time I fished what I did fish for 3 hours.

8/13/2017 12:45:24 PMI can't speak for the others on this thread, but in my opinion, the best way to learn the lake is simply to go fishing there a lot. I've been fishing Sammamish for almost a year now. If I or anyone else took you out, you would only learn a little bit about that particular day. It is a dynamic process and as soon as you think you have dialed it in, you get a big slice of humble pie. I would recommend you do some research on the particular fish you wish to pursue. Spend time learning about the biology of the fish your wish to catch and look at several videos on Youtube for technique and rigging. Many ways to skin a cat and everyone will have their preferences. Do a lot of experimenting and go often. What works now won't work everyday. And the better spots change all the time. Be a constant student and learn each time you go. I would be willing to bet the others on this page have paid some dues. I felt early on that if only another person could show me, i would be able to catch fish like them. But there is more to it than that. The more you go, the better the odds that you will hook a great fish. I have good days, but still learning. Enjoy the adventure. Perhaps others will chime in on this too.

8/13/2017 8:22:17 PMYup, I've paid my dues for over 50 years fishing for mostly Bass. Sometimes I feel like helping, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I feel like fishing with someone, sometimes I don't.

8/14/2017 1:26:11 AMI guess part of my issue is not having an outboard on my boat, a 15' Saturn inflatable. I have a trolling motor on it and can only go as far as my deep cycle battery will allow, which means I don't get much exploring each time out, especially since I have to factor in returning to a launch ramp. I've explored the south end quite a bit, but only what I can reach and return from. Right now my boat is at my friends' dock in South Cove, so I've been fishing from there over to about Camp Sambica and back. I've caught bass up to about 2.5 lbs, but don't get into the bigger fish consistently like you guys seem to.
Maybe I need to spend more time with the drop shot and less time with jigs and swimbaits. I tend to throw lures I can retrieve quicker than a drop shot so that I can maximize ground covered with my limitation of the trolling motor.

8/14/2017 5:23:05 AMYou can catch big fish with a jig, just slow it way down and let it dead stick for 20 to 30 seconds. Or swim it thru the weeds. Skip it under the docks, and dead stick it. Fish out in deep water and swim the jig around a bit, as well as dead sticking it and hopping and dragging it on the bottom. Use a 3" to 5" grub trailer to swim it with. You don't need to buy a 'swim jig', you can use any jig. Some jigs are easier to skip with than the others. I've heard a flippin jig will skip good. Some day I'll have to get a flippin jig and see if it does. Fish the dropshot very slow, along with lots of dead sticking, and slow dragging, and faster dragging. With slow wiggling, fast wiggling, and intermittent wiggling during the dead sticking.

8/14/2017 8:46:51 PMIt's a numbers game. Toss enough lures into high percentage areas and you'll catch them eventually. Can't catch fish if your lure isn't in the water.

8/13/2017 8:25:57 PMHey Fishingfool, guess what I caught on that top water today. --- A 5" BLUEGILL. hahaha Nothing over a 2.22 today. But caught 12Bass, and 1 BIG crappie. :-)

8/15/2017 1:24:02 PMLOTS-o-fish today on my home lake, even top water. Was great, 15 Largies until the final hour and some little smallie snuk in and grabbed my dropshot worm. 28 total Bass, but no biggins. Back to Sammamish soon. I did figure out why my hook keeps falling out. Seems I tied on a barbless hook the last time a big one broke off. lol
