First cast at about 8:40AM. Went up 2/3 of the way up the lake to see if I could get a LMB quickly. 1st hour, no fish at all. Had 1 little nibble.
Working my way down, tried the shallow docks, drawing blanks. Moved out deeper on a laydown and get my first dink SMB at about 10" on DS.
Now I'm in the timber field in about 50' of water. I saw some markings at the bottom. DS and dragged the CR around with no bites.
Stopped a dock where I broke off a few weeks back and blank there. Then stopped off point and get myself another dink SMB. Try the Carolina rig around there with no bites. I hear a big splash behind me. I turn around and saw a hawk in the water! It was struggling to get out of the water. After watching it for a couple of seconds, I get ready to turn the boat to see if I need to net it, lol. As soon as I touched the trolling motor, it finally breaks free from the surface and has a fish on! It starts flying away. I see at a distance an eagle giving chase. It catches up to the hawk and the hawk drops it's fish. Eagle circles around to see if it could get the fish. Fish must have been alive because neither bird went back for it.
Decided to tie on a heavy swivel head with swimbait. Worked the point and on the deep side, I get a solid bite finally. Fighting pretty decent, then I see it's a big squawfish! Kept it for the eagle.
Went to Farthole and saw the eagle up top. Tossed the squawfish into the water. Eagle doesn't get it at all. Just perched up there staring in silence. Boat stinks like squaw for nothing.
Used the DS at Farthole for a bit. At first, no bites. Then get 1 light tap but miss. Then I get another bite and finally hook up. Just maybe a 1.5#. Worked the other baits through without anything else. 3 hours of fishing and not much to show for it. 3 small SMB and 1 big squaw. Thinking about heading. But I'll stop off at 4# hole first.
Toss out the DS and start working it. Dink and let it shake off at boat side. Another dink and shake off. Then a 3rd dink and shake off . Not big ones, but at least fast action, so that was fun. Then I get a nice strike and pull in a ~2#, maybe 2 and a quarter.
Then a dink on next cast. Then another dink #er. Get a couple more 1# and another just shy of 2# at the same spot. This spot just turned my 2 rating to a 3. It was so slow fishing and they are stacked here. No big ones, but consistent action. Then I get a strike that felt like a freight train. Only to be disappointed by another big squawfish, lol.
Caught a few more 1# and finished off with another short 2 and called it good. Fished this spot for almost 2 hours. 4# hole saves the day.
