Saw AMX at the launch this morning. He'll do his thing, then I do mine and we'll meet up somewhere to exchange notes.

Started off with a topwater lure with no bites. Then changed it to something more subtle and got 2 strikes from a fish. But it missed the lure both times completely. Followed up with a soft jerkbait with no reaction. Got a 3rd strike going down the bank that made contact, but didn't hookup.

Switch up to a dropshot. Managed a couple of dinks. I was working the east bank. Since it's early, I'm thinking it might be a good time to go to the west bank to try a bit before it gets too hot. I hear a boat coming up behind and see it's AMX. So far, it seems we're both having similar outings. Do a couple more casts and start to pull out into deeper water when I notice bait fish and some larger arches in about 25' of water. Get a couple 1#ish SMB. Broke off my leader on a hookset. Retied and broke off testing the knot. Then again. FFFUUUUUU. Removed about 15' of line and that seemed to do the trick. After no more nibbles, blasted off towards the west.

Got 3 dink to 1# SMB back to back to back cast so that was some fun fast action. One of them spit out this 3" stick bait.

Managed to get 2 more in the 1-1.5# SMB. Then blasted off to meet up with AMX at a point.

Worked the point with only 1 nibble, no fish. Getting a tad toasty and it's only 9:30AM.

We stopped off at Farthole for several casts. We found some active dinks to just under 2#ers that were willing to bite. Had a couple of "doubles" so that was pretty cool. I set my goal to hit 2#. Set it low to be achievable but so far, not looking good, lol.

Planned on heading in, but wanted to show AMX the 4# hole. I think on my 2nd cast there, caught myself another one of those 1# we've been seeing all morning. He took off and I stayed out for a bit longer so I could reach my goal. Caught 4 more there, but nothing over 1.5#. Had a pretty funny experience fishing at this hole. I had a fish steal my bait so I put on a new one. After a while, I get another bite and see it's one of those smaller bass. It jumps and I see my bait fling off like usual..... but wait, I see something still hanging off the side of the fishes mouth. I look closer and this must have been the bait thief. My lure is still attached and I know for a fact the bait that flung off is exactly what I'm using. Pretty cool and funny. I wasn't fast enough to save it before it sank too deep.

Lots of dinks, plenty of 1#ers. Didn't see anything bigger.

Ya, it started off slower than slow. As in NOTHING for the first hour so I went hunting smallies and saw you where I was going to start and fish my way to the meeting place. Finaly got a 12"er just before you left for the other side of the lake. Then got another. Then a few at my special spot, including 3 on top water. The day ended good anyway as the farthole produced after a slow start there also.

And it was fun watching the eagle catch that fish, at the Farthole, that didn't want my top water. lol

That reminds me. Had a hawk very curious about your topwater this morning. Was circling around until I yelled at it. Then it left and flew away.

Did I tell you, or did you read the report, if I made a report, don't remember, where the eagle was checking out the top water and came in very low, then 2 or 3 casts later the hawk/osprey landed on the water and tried to get it? I jerked it away just before the hawk landed. 0^0 That was about 3-4 weeks ago.

You guys should have seen the action in Wisconsin a few weeks ago. My wife saw a big musky rolling near us, so she decides to cast a huge floating plug with large trebles all over it. Immediately the resident eagle population decided that looked tasty. I heard my wife yelling "NOOO" and looked over as an eagle with it's talons fully extended heading mach 5 to the lure. Amazingly it pulled up and away at the last second. That could have been real ugly with those hooks. Good advice on keeping an eye out.
