Hit Newcastle Beach Park for the first time today. Was kind of shocked to see that fishing off the dock and was so shallow. Felt like I threw my arm out trying to cast out past the shallows and thick vegetation...
Eventually I just went with what I was given and decided to use a light power grub jig with homemade inline spinner. Cast and medium retrieve.
Wow, almost had bites on every cast. Probably landed 5-6 yellow perch but they were all pretty small (4-7 inches). I was surprised by how aggressively they were hitting my lure. And fun to watch them chase it in the shallow water.
I've only been fishing for a few months and I'm still learning. Today's lesson.. Make sure to get a solid hook set especially in shallow water. I was dodging my lure left and right bulleting back to me with missed hook sets... Guess it kept me on my toes... Literally. Hopefully I wasn't being filmed and on some fishing fail video on YouTube later.
