I got a super late start today (1 pm)which I thought would be in my favor when I headed to the new launch in Snoho-WRONG! There were at least 20 trucks ahead of me. So I decided to hand launch my 12' jon boat at Cady Landing-a lot of carrying back and forth, but well worth the effort.
I got a chance to test out my new long tail Swamp Runner motor on the river today and it performs like a champ-didn't even have to think about where the channel was, just laughed as I saw how shallow I was running as I cruised upriver!
Found a likely spot and tied up along the rip rap. Fished for about 4 hours with tons of fish jumping and a whole parade of boats coming and going. Patience was the rule as I stayed put and hooked 4 and landed 3. Only saw 3 other fish landed since everyone kept coming and going.. 1/8 and 1/4 oz jigs with pink hoochies and soft hooks did the trick and kept me from loosing as much gear to the rocks.
All were bright strong bucks, several with sea lice still attached and 1 had a big chunk missing from a sea lion bite. Saw several seals/lions on my way back to the launch. All in all a fantastic day on the river!
