Thought we would try Riffe Lake for perhaps one final time this year. It had been a few weeks since I was there last. The water has dropped significantly. Last time the new addition to the dock at the Mossy Rock camp ground was floating with a lot of good water beneath it. This time, the new additions were high and dry with the water level about 20ft from the dock. The far left ramp is the only useable ramp. Not sure how much longer the ramp will be useable.
The fishing was good, but not great. It was better a few weeks ago. Most of our action was in the 60 ft depth, but we did catch a few down to about 90ft. We did fish from the ramp to the dam, on the other side from the ramp, and to the east. No area was better than the other, we caught fish in all areas. Green seemed to work best, nothing was caught on red or orange. We were using hoochies and wedding rings. Fish ranged from about 10" to 17.5". Fish still look very good, very bright.
We started fishing around 7:00 am and we could easily see the dam and far east end of the lake. By noon, the smoke had become so thick, we could not see the dam, nor vary far up the lake to the east. The smoke was so thick, it was like thick fog or clouds. It did tend to keep the temperatures down though.
