Hit Lake WA on Friday 9/8. Launched out of Coulon about 8:30am and headed to the center of the lake at the South end of Mercer Island. Sent the Fish Hawk temp probe down to the bottom to get a temperature read. Magic temp of 52 degrees was at 65 ft so that's where I started. It was flat calm on the water with an overcast sky.
There was plenty of bait in the water column. Started out with an 8in flasher and a brads 3.0 cut plug at 65 ft. No more than 5 mins into it got whacked pretty hard. Started to reel in and about 50ft behind the boat a nice salmon went airborne and spit the hook. Reset and went back to fishing.
The bite was on and off all day. Fished from 8:30am to 5:30pm. In total had 5 fish come unstuck before the reaching the boat. Brought to side of the boat were 3 cutts, 1 kokanee, 5 rainbows, a small silver (that was a surprise) and a juvenile king. Kept the kokanee and the cutts, released everything else.
Attractors used were:
Used an 8' purple haze flasher, orange and a UV herring bone sling blade, and a DD dodger in green.
Lures used were:
Wiggle hoochie in purple, wedding ring in green, Brads 3.0 and 2.25 cut plug herring in pink and silver/black combo, coho killer in cop car (that caught ALL of the trout), Gold Star herring aide spoon, mini hoochie in purple and white.
Did not take any fish pics this time as I was trying out a new net. Got one of those Ego S2 collapsible fishing nets. I fish alone and have had problems netting bigger fish or fish that just stay a tad too far for me to reach with my old net. This thing solved the problem and the single handed collapsing handle is great.
Get out there and go get them, still plenty of willing trout out there. Be safe! -G
