Patty and I arrived at Lyon's Ferry Marina Friday afternoon and were on the water about 5pm, We went right over to the hatchery and started jigging where we saw people catching Chinook last year. Only a couple other boats and very few fish on the screen, I knew we were in trouble. Fished till dark with no bites. Back out there at daybreak. Set up trolling with Protroll flashers, superbats, and tuna, switching out colors, scents with cutplugs and originals, from 15-50ft on the wire. No hits! At 10am, we decided to try for walleye and maybe catfish, Never had fished for catfish before. We went to the grain silos up near the Tucannon and dropped down our Walleye bottom walkers and homemade worm harnesses. Within 30 seconds, I had my first channel cat in the boat. We were surprised how pretty they are and good fighters too. We caught 8 in about 30 minutes, from about 13" to about 17". That was enough until I found out how to fillet them. The marina has wify and I googled up "How ti fillet a catfish in 15 seconds." It was a piece of cake. Tried for Kings again that eve and Sunday morning with exact same luck, then back to the honey hole. We got 3 channel cats and a larger blue cat, and 2 walleye, 18" and 24". My personal rule is to release any walleye 25" or larger. A very nice older Asian lady watched me fillet them and I gave her the carcasses. She even wanted the guts! Tight lines, Lee.

The run is late this year.... usually peaks around the 19th but its easily a week late. I'd recommend checking the counts before you go at www.fpc.org but at least in this area there are always back up fish to be caught!
