I've lived in this area my entire 49 years, and had never fished Ki until today. HO-LEE-SMOKES what a day. I lost count at well over 40 fish landed. If I continue with days like this I will need to invest in a counter.
Somewhat late start, maybe on the lake and fishing by 8:30. Having never been on the lake before, I pedaled around to get the lay of the lake, depths, and more importantly, find where the fish are! Dropped both line in the water and started zig-zagging around the lake looking for the area and depth I needed to fish at. It didn't take me long and I quickly realized I was marking little anywhere except for when I was in 80-32 feet of water. I marked lots of fish right near bottom at those lake depths, not much showed up anywhere else. So I dropped both lines down to 24-25 feet, and immediately started getting into fish after fish after fish.
Today I ran Elgin Fishing God's Tooth Spoons, no dodger, nothing else. maybe a 5 foot leader to a duo lock snap which attaches to the God's Tooth, and makes for easy, fast pattern change-outs. I didn't need to do much changing. I ran the Frog pattern on 1 line, and the Brown Trout pattern on the other, both on fast action (right out of the package). Both lures got hammered repeatedly, but for some reason after about an hour, they stopped hitting the Brown Trout patter completely. Changed that one out with a 50/50 Gold, and that line immediately started getting love again. Just an amazing day. I honestly believe I could have fished til sundown and would have not stopped catching fish. 1 brief odd 30 minutes lull in the action where I only landed a couple of fish, otherwise I didn't go much more than a few minutes without a fish on. I would literally go over some marks, and by the time I counted to 5 one of my lines would be bouncing. I am pretty sure my best day numbers wise for trout, and the awesome thing is that it's a lake the gets referred to being "fished out" by now. I've seen a ton more marks on the sonar before, but it sure felt like today the God's Tooth enticed a bite out of every mark I saw. I guess I made every mark count!
Video shows a ton of fish I landed today. I kept 5 in the end. 3 fish during the scrum were bleeding, 1 I released by saw it belly up so I went ahead and netted/bonked it, then just bagged my last 2 on the way out. Fun fishing being able to call your shots.
