My buddy and I hit the lake for our first time ever. We put our kayaks in around 8am and worked the cove until 2pm. Marked quite a few fish in a very nice midge hatch. The buffleheads sure were going nuts for the bugs and fish were surfacing! Fishing was a little slow, but we still managed some action. We worked the same area and just keep making small passes. There were definitely fish there. After a couple hours I somehow set my display screen brightness so low, on the fish finder, that I was not able to see it or change it back. Was blind for the rest of the day. I was able to boat 4 nice fish and lost 1 right under my kayak. I released 2 of the four (one small and one 20" spawner). Kept a 14" and 17" fish. Also missed a couple hits.
I also picked up two full beers that someone had lost in the lake...floating at the top haha. The first one came literally minutes after realizing that neither myself or my buddy brought a victory beer! About an hour later I netted a second cold one and gave it to him hahaha. So, a pretty productive day. Some fish and a couple lake beers! Can't go wrong with that! Not to mention the sunshine.
Most of my hits were trolling at 2.4mph and not sure what depth, but I had four #20 size split shot and 120'-150' setbacks, longlining. I'm guessing 15 - 25'. My first fish that I've caught on the Elgin God's Tooth spoon. What a wonderful spoon! 50/50 gold was the ticket for me, pulled behind a sling blade. I will be buying more of these spoons! Looking forward to taking the kayak out there again.
Cheers and happy fishing!
