Had the pleasure of taking some Lake Roosevelt "newbies" out to try our luck on the trout/kokes. We left the Ft. Spokane launch around 8:00 and put our first couple fish in the boat by 8:20. We stayed between mouth and Seven Bays all morning and had steady action. Netted 18 rb total of which 5 were returned to either grow or get their fin clipped. All of the ones that we kept were between 17" and 21"( 6 over 18").
Pretty equal catch rate between either the orange or orange/black Kekedas and my newly delivered orange Old Goat lure. Everything was within 10 foot of the surface and our speed was 2.0 - 2.4. Sorry, but I left my phone in the truck so no pics this time.
Would have given the day a 5 if we'd touched any kokes during our outing but no such luck. Still a great trip overall for some wonderful folks who really appreciated a successful day catching the largest trout of their lives.
Just gotta love Roosevelt!

Thanks for the reminder. Great fish there, will be interesting to hear if the real prize will show up in any numbers this winter there.

I did have a question for you about the OG1. I tried it baitless for about 45 minutes without a bite but caught 5 fish on it after adding a small worm piece . Coincidence?

I haven't tried it with a nightcrawler. But, we do often use an anise or shrimp scent.

I have had great luck with the Old Goat Lures. They are a go to lure on Roosevelt for me. Thanks for the report.

dharris -- I hope you don't give up on the OG1's. I can't say how they work on lake Roosevelt yet, but I can honestly say they have worked wonders for me on lakes like Sprague, Rock, Coldwater, and a couple other lakes over here on the west side. And tipping them with a chunk of night crawler, or shrimp scented shoe peg corn will even make them more effective. But it's totally not necessary tho. They work awesome when fishing them naked for sure. That's the way you have to use them on Coldwater with a single barbless hook on them. I am extremely amazed at how well they have worked for me. I'm sure they will work for you just as well if you keep experimenting with them. Denny

Great report! Thanks for using Kekeda flies and sharing your success with them. It's good to hear of some bigger clipped fish being caught. Take care, Dave

Yea, it was very noticeable that the farther we were away from the mouth, the bigger the fish got. Right outside of Seven Bays was where we caught almost all of the larger ones.

Thanks for the tip on the bigger ones. Heading out next week to see if we can find some too.
