Hit the road to Munn Lake today, my favorite Slective Gear Lake.

Was on the water by 10am and had an October plant 14 “ Rainbow on after just 15 minutes. Had to work hard to work to get #2 as I explored the lake. Picked a 3rd around noon and lost two, one that I would have loved to seen, a lot more fish than I was getting.

Worked an area that I stopped at earlier to work my Skip Bobber set up in which I got 3 bumps and my rod jams down towards the water. As the fish got closer I could see a much more orange belly with some deep red cheeks. I finally caught what I wanted to catch. A 16” Cutthroat that was recently planted their.

I caught two more in about the exact same area and who knows, it might have been the same fish! It sure looked like it to me! All three were caught after 1pm.

Thanks for the report. Pretty fish. I've caught pretty nice fish (trout) here while trying for bass. Restrictions make it more of a challenge - which is fine with me. Unfortunately I've seen power eggs at the ramp. Idiots.

Yea, you see it all there.....just in very small doses. Crazy good lake for just plain old catching no matter what it is.

Nice catch Bob but I'm pretty sure that's a Brown Trout you have there. Also in Munn Lake.

Brad, having never seen one or obviously caught one I would not know for sure, BUT all the Cutt’s that were released into Munn last month were “after”spawning I was told. That is why there was a delay in releasing them. It was a week after I sent you a message. I sent you a pic on your FB page showing more of the underside, which shows the Red portion under the jaw bone. Browns don’t have this do they? Thanks....meet me there?

I don't see any halos around the heavy spotting on that fish so I'm inclined to side with TMBob that it is a cutthroat and not a brown trout.

I'd have to side on the cutthroat in spawning colors vs a brown. I've caught a lot of browns here in Utah and Idaho, and though I can see why one could think it was a brown, that heavy spotting pattern on the tail as well as a lack of red spots would lead me to believe cutthroat. That being said, the Bonneville cutthroat that I'm used to catching are way different than those coastal cutthroat. I'm really liking the look of them and am excited to catch some soon.
