Melissa, the dogs and I hit American Lake on Sunday. Wanted to try out some new Kokanee rods and reels picked up for Christmas. We set the downriggers up with Kokanee gear and varied depths. We also ran 2 trout set-ups on long lines. We picked up a pretty 13 in rainbow in the first 5 minutes and that was it! Kinda knew it would be a longshot catching Kokanee at this lake at this time of year but It was a nice morning nonetheless. We set up the I-pad on the boat and watched the NFL playoff game to kill the time. Nice calm water, foggy but not too cold. Saw several boats out and even some jet skiers dropped in as we were leaving. Trolled all over the lake for 4 hours before calling it quits. Trying to find the right time to head over to Chelan for some winter Kokanee fix.

Watched the Steelers lose. Now if the Jags could beat the Pats all will be good!

I was on the lake that same morning. Saw some “bait balls” on the finder, but got no bites. Earlier, Big Smooth posted a report on 11-27-2014 and mentioned he saw “Lots of bait balls around.” Is there plenty of natural fish food in the lake?

Woops! That Big Smooth report was in 2017, not 2014.

your 'baitballs' are likely schools of small perch - Very overpopulated with them
