Down to Lake Sammamish again with rain and about a 5 mph wind blowing. Only one other boat on the lake this Friday and he was a bass fisherman. Combat fishing again. We started trolling at the boat launch and trolled all the way to Redmond in our 4 hours of fishing. I guess that would give a clue as to how fast we troll. We kept on our Old Goat lures in perch color but it was a real slow day. In no particular spot did we catch more than one fish and we had four cutthroat in our time on the lake. We released each one but measured the longest and he came in at 17" and was rather dark, a long and skinny type. The others were our average fish, 12-14" and nice and bright and fat. The weather got nicer as the day went on. We packed up a little earlier than normal and headed for the barn. The fish were caught at 20 feet or less on our downriggers, still great to just be out in suburbia with no one else around. We are getting lonely out there so come and try the lake out. Great boat launch and easy access.

Several guys that I know who have fished Lake Sammamish this past week have also experienced rather slow fishing so you are just reaffirming what I've been hearing. They too reported running into the occasional dark/skinny pre or post spawn Cutthroat. They all tell me the fishing has been quite slow which does not overly surprise me for this period in the year given my many years of fishing the lake for its Cutthroat. I've found the February through April period almost always tends to be quite challenging. I've always assumed it was due to the fact the Cutthroat are in a spawning phase and are not interested in chasing after lures. For me, I've found the fishing usually picks up significantly once we get into May and through June. As you say, whether you encounter hot or slow fishing on the lake, its always nice just to be out on the water especially if you can be out there at this time of the year on a real nice weather day.

February- April is spawning time, so it is tough fishing. But, any day on Sammamish is well worth it.

Don just sent me a couple perch patterns, can’t wait to test them.

I’ll be guiding again in May on the lake and I may need to pre fish, see me a pm and let’s hit th water brother!
