Hit Beaver on a day off and got to the launch about 8:30am. One bank angler and two other just starting as I prepare my toon. The angler that had been there had on a Go Pro Head cam and caught his 5th fish and headed out.
I headed to a shoreline where the week before I did well, but there was nothing there. Made me way down the lake and troll plugs for awhile looking to see if I could get any leftovers from the winter plant that I did well on. Nothing
Trolled up the shoreline with Elgin Spoons...Nothing. I finally saw a fish rise and next thing I knew it was game on all day long for those freshly planted Bow’s with my TM/Bobber set up. Again Pink was the main color and they wore out my stock so I tried Red and that was darn good too! Lots of really small fish about 7” with a few fatter and about 9-10”.
I heard a child talking and noticed a troller with his little boy but they were headed away from me. Later in the day I see them again and as they approached I asked how they did....nothing, not even a strike using pop gear and worms. They had been out for awhile and I wanted the little boy to catch something so I offered my St. Croix Avid UL and Shimano Stradic Ci4+ Set up for the dad to use to get some fish for the boy and he said are you sure....of course I am. Right away they got a fish but missed several and lost some while I was now catching them on my Elgin Spoon just casting it out and retrieving it. I also used a #1 Needlefish while they had my set UL and that worked also. I mentioned that I use barbless hooks and the dad asked if I had any barbed hooks so he could get some to the boat.
I tied up my last Pink TM on some Flourocarbon leader for them as the dad found a Bobber. It was finally slowing down and I left after a fish spit the hook and it got all tangled up around my tip. Figured that was enough after a long day of catching fish and headed in.
If you find them at Beaver, the TM/ Bobber is a perfect set up for the kids to really have some fun watching that Bobber go down with plenty of action.
