I figured with the only one day of decent weather for a week that I would hit Nahwatzel. Left early and got to the ramp around 7:15am. One other boat on the water. Bank fishermen on both sides of the ramp. Started out trolling with a fly and a 1/4 oz weight. Next time I am going to use less weight. I marked lots of fish on my Garmin DV44. Noted water temp between 48-51 degrees. I understand Satsop stocked this lake on March 24th. Trolled around for a hour or so. One strike that was a pop off unfortunately. Noted in about a hour that the lake was getting busy. Saw many other boats and a few other kayaks all doing about the same - trolling with little luck. Did see one good size trout caught around 830am. I switched over to still fishing and power bait by the wood pilings. Saw a few rising fish in this area so decided to drop anchor for a while. Landed one 16" fish and promptly released him back. And then the bite stopped.
I spoke with a few other people and many had the same response-it was slow. All blamed it on weather. Seemed like yesterday (Sunday) the wind blew and next day (today) a big low front with rain was expected. Switched back to trolling fly and got one other that popped off right at the boat around 16"- 18" I estimate. At noon this lake had significant fishing pressure. I loaded back on the trailer around 2pm. When I left the ramp parking lot there were so many boat trailers some people were parking their rigs along side the road.
Still a great day always enjoy being on this Lake. I heard first thing in the morning what sounded like Elk but might have been a loon calling out several times first thing which was cool.
