My fishing partner and I have a hard time staying away from Lake Washington's Cutthroat fishery up at the north end of the lake. Although some days are better than others, when you do hit a very good day, it can be nothing but rewarding given the fish are very nice size. We were at it again this morning. This time and for the first time, we did a launch from the Kirkland Marina. A great launching spot. We were on our way across the lake to the area off McAleer Creek around 8:00 AM where we recently had some good fishing. We trolled that general area for about 1 1/2 hours using methods of fishing that previously worked well for us. See my previous posts. We trolled and trolled and trolled that area but never had as much as a single strike. We got very disappointed so we picked up and kicked over to an area that was good for us at times last year. That's the Campaign Point to Juanita Point area that was recommended to us a number of years ago by a guide on the lake. Once we got our downriggers, 40 to 50 foot depth, and Sling Blade with the Ace High Fly Junior Blue Splatter Back/#344 into the water, it was almost like we were fishing in another lake. We started out having two very quick doubles. In 2 1/2 hours of fishing as we continued to troll back and forth through the same water, we landed and took home 10 beautiful Cutthroat that ranged in size from 14 to 20 inches. We also lost several nice size fish. All the fish were in very prime condition and they were deep bodied. Their stomachs were just loaded with small partially digested smolt like fish. We suspect they were sockeye smolts. With perfect fishing weather and calm waters on the big lake today, it became a wonderful day of fishing for two retired oldsters.

Good report. Thank you. I also like that Kirkland launch but it is expensive. I use it when the salmon are in .i will be on the lake again in the south end soon. Report to come.
