Close to a perfect weather day to fish. 65 degrees, 61.5 water temp, mostly sunny and nearly calm water.
Had to work this morning, so didn't get on the water until 2pm and wrapped at 5pm, but it was such a good fishing day it felt like a reward for the morning obligations. Our truck has been broken down all week, so we were grateful to P. for trailering the boat today. He got to try out his new extended/add on side mirrors, too.
K. lost several and didn't get any fish in the boat but ours. He was the all important net man for us today.
P. boated 6 and thought he had the big fish trophy until I boated 5, one of which was 20". I knew it was a good fish as it stayed under and took line. It was a beauty. All fish were returned to be caught another day. I am a big proponent of frequently changing lures. That's part of my fishing fun....figuring out what the fish want. I used 11 different lures, whereas P. only used 1 until the very end of the trip when he tried a second lure. He loves to gloat when he catches as many or more on a single lure.
There was a man and a teeny child in a small boat. We watched as the kid reeled and reeled and reeled and finally brought in a trout behind a long string of cowbell spinners. They cheered, we cheered and then we got quite a talk from the little one telling about this first fish (we presume first of their day). Take a child fishing. It can create a lifelong, healthy passion. Thanks to my Grandma and first fishing buddy. Memories I cherish to this day.
