Wow, fun day out on the lake. I had multiple people at the launch ask what we were using, do to the quantity of fish we caught so I figured I had better get a report posted.

Got up at 4:00 AM and headed out of Tacoma. I was very concerned about having an open parking space for the trailer and SUV so I left early. It worked! I was the first boat in the water. Only one other truck in the parking lot.

I putted (5 mph) across the lake to the resort and grabbed my friend who camped out at the resort off the dock. We got everything setup and were fishing around 7:40 AM. We started pulling a Green wedding ring with green smilie blade and were getting none stop hits. This rig was on a downrigger at about 10ft deep. The ring was tipped with night crawler. No pop gear or dodgers, just straight line to a swivel and then a wedding ring on the down rigger release. We picked up a few off this rig. My buddy was running some micro flashers and a cool Sepps kokanee trout wedding ring in pink but was showing little to no action While my pole was bouncing all over. He had all of this on the second downrigger running about 12-14 ft which is almost on the bottom! I gave him a cool lure that I just bought that was a green hootchie squid with some beads, double stinger hook and green smilie blade on top.

He immediately started landing fish. The hootchie spinner was out fishing my wedding ring. We stayed with both lures until we limited.

I have found the less gear I have on my line the more trout I am catching all over our state.

This trip, the closer our downrigger balls were to the bottom, the bigger the fish we were catching. We consistently were catching good sized trout. In the morning the trout were all over the lake. By one in the afternoon the fish were holding above areas of 20ft or more. Changing speeds and S patterns were helping hook ups. I think usually we were going about 1mph.

I'm interested in the fish species though. Some of the trout that were coming up were larger than the others and had gold along the sides and back with black topped heads. They also had a small hump behind their head?? I have no clue what type of trout these were. When I cleaned them their meat was very healthy looking and... pink like a salmon.

Anyway. Another fun sunny day. Cheers. (2 limits are shown in the photo. My buddies and mine)

Nice day and report! Those fish, at least in your pictures, I am pretty certain are all rainbows.
