Haven't been very active fishing for a while... lots of things going on in my life right now. Making arrangements to move to Oregon as soon as we can sell our condo. Trips to Reedsport area in the past couple of months (Umpqua River there). Anyway, headed for Blackman's to get my overdue fix of my favorite pastime. Arrived at Hill Park at 5:30 AM, on the pier and fishing by 6:00... one fisherman already at the end of the pier, so I took my position about 2/3 the way out. Temp was 54 degrees at the outset, overcast, with no breeze... lake was a flat calm. Water temp was a warm 61 degrees. Began with fl. orange Power Eggs on one rig (6' leader) and green PE on the other (4' leader). Lots of fisherman showed up throughout the morning, both piers at the park were pretty full by mid-morning and I could see many on the WDFW pier across the lake as well. Fishing was very slow for everyone... tried various colors of PE and Power Dough, as well as worms under a float and on the bottom. Had a couple of light hits on green PE, but no hookups. Finally, about noon, I tied on a Panther Martin spinner in Rainbow pattern and immediately began to have hits. For the next two hours I had hit after hit, numerous long-range releases and hook being spit as the feisty fish leaped out of the water. Was able to land my five fish limit of nice stocker Rainbows of between 11" and 12". One of the larger, bearing the distinct impression of the bill of my nemesis, the Cormorant... a narrow miss! Saw few other fish taken this day, most that were taken off the pier were caught on some sort of spoon/spinner. Left the lake at 2:00 to get home for an appointment at 5:00.
Enjoyed my day at the lake. Always plenty of avian activity to keep me entertained. The resident eagle pair, now raising eaglets, were busy harassing the Ospreys and stealing fish from them. Lots of ducks and geese flitting about and a few with newly hatched broods following them. Smoked a couple bowls-full of my favorite pipe tobacco, and greatly enjoyed God's Creation.
Sorry, no pictures at the lake, as I allowed my camera's battery to go dead! PTL!

Well, you may be excited for your move to Oregon, Stan, but I call that a bummer for myself. I always enjoy your reports, as they are very well rounded with observations of both the bird life around you, and sometimes the ‘Characters ‘ on the docks.
I hope you still are able to report on some Oregon fishing locations.. (not sure if there are any or maybe a few Oregon reporting options on the site these days?
Hope you clean up on your Condo sale!
