Fished Lake Washington on Friday. Arrived and launched from Gene Coulon at 8:30 a.m. Went halfway between Mercer Island and Cedar River and started my troll North. Since I had such good luck with the gods tooth lure last time, figured I would start with that again. When I arrived I sent down the Fish Hawk temperature gauge to see what the water temperature was. Thermocline started at 35 feet (65 degrees) and stopped at 55 ft (49 degrees). So that's what I targeted. Nothing until about halfway through the troll of the South edge of Mercer Island. After about 30 minutes in I got my first strike but unfortunately it came off before getting to the boat. Continued my troll and picked up 1 fish. Trolled over to the southwest corner of Mercer Island out in 100+ feet of water and got my second and third fish. After a while I had to run back to the dock to let my son-in-law borrow the ladder in my truck. After giving him the ladder I decided to just troll right out of Coulon and head up the East Channel. As soon as I got between Coulon and the first set of houses on the right in about 80 ft of water, I had a take down that was so strong it startled me because the lure got hit so violently. The fight was on. A tug of war back and forth ensued and as the fish got about 10 yards from the boat it went airborne spit the hook and took off. It looked like a very nice salmon. I have to hand it to those Gods Tooth spoons, they have worked for me so far on 2 outings. The trout and salmon go nuts over them. I am going to modify mine with a small swivel on the hook thought. The fish can get leverage on the stock hook if they get some air. If you can keep them down in the water no problem, at least that's my results so far. I need to order some more and make some double GT salmon rigs out of them.
It was a good day for fishing the bite is still on. Did not see much for bait or fish on the sonar most of the day. Got off the water at 4pm. All my fish (5 total) today were caught between 35 and 50 ft down on the wire. Used the nickel and blue Gods Tooth lure and the pink trout one, with a gulp pink maggot on the hook and garlic bloody tuna scent on the dodger. Nice day, morning marine layer, light sprinkles here and there and practically nobody out on the lake. Fishing is still good on Lake Washington at the south end so go get them. Be safe. -G
