Although I only caught two fish in giving this trip a 4 because both were quality healthy looking brook trout and they were some of the bigger brookies I’ve ever caught. I decided to take the yak to McGinnis before heading back home after fishing Omak all day yesterday. This lake is absolutely beautiful and there are fish surfacing everywhere. Hooked up with both fish while trolling and just as I made a variation in speed. The big bonus for today was seeing a moose hanging out next to the lake right after I reset from catching the first fish. Overall a great weekend. More people need to get out to the lakes on Colville Reservation and take advantage of the great fishery the tribes have created. I also strongly recommend staying at Leader Lake Campground if you’re out that way, good location in relation to the tribal waters and a good clean campground with a decent trout lake.

Love to hear more about this lake having never caught a Brook. I see copper as the color and you were trolling....can you add anything more? Send me a PM if needed please.

I was trolling various copper spinners/spoons from the kayak. I got the word on copper from the guys at North 40 in Omak. Never used any copper colors with any success until today! You should get out there on that lake, beautiful place and some nice fish. Some tips... No combustible motors allowed so kayaks, pontoons etc. only. I feel that’s about all you’ll need for this lake. When driving out there you’ll take a primitive road for a good few miles so just be careful driving out there. Make sure you get a tribal fishing permit, the Colville Reservation has a book with regulations and locations where you can buy a permit. If you are after Lahontan Cutthroats, give Omak Lake a try while you’re out there, its an absolutely stellar place to fish from shore or a boat. I’ve also heard that Buffalo Lake holds some trophy rainbow trout, that will be my next adventure.

minicoopyakangler, Yeah, fished McGinnis a few weeks back, along with Buffalo. The Brookies in McGinnis were good size! If you go to Buffalo, don't bother fishing the end of the lake where the Reynold's Resort is. Yes, you will see fish jumping there like crazy, but the large Rainbows all seemed to congregate at the opposite end of the lake, and a couple coves at the far end. You are in a Yak... there is a very rough dirt road that goes to the far end, and you can launch there.

Nice thanks for the tips! I’ll defintley take note for the next time I head out east and hit up Buffalo. Hopefully I can get away at the end of the month!

Two years ago, we could not find the rainbows but caught a number of kokanee that all all had numerous alien looking worms popping out of them. I knew the word for these but cant recall now. Did you see any of this on your trip?
