I remember the first week fishing this lake I got skunked, eventually I found some useful methods to produce fish. Its been a while since I've fished one of my favorite lakes and it was hard work, the first half of the trip seemed promising with a few early hits but once I got them to the boat they were little dinks only 6", total of 3 of them, released them all, it was looking like it was going to be a fail of a trip, I lost my lucky rooster tail on the east side of the lake on one of those sunken Rope/Pole things, there are 3 of them spread out and they are submerged just underneath the surface of the water. I wasn't to happy and neither were the other guys fishing at the lake, they jetted off after a couple of hours. I was going to go Aggro on Lake Ballinger due to the Wind knocking me around, losing lures, and some how my spoon hooked it self and I had to take it of the ring to unhook it from itself...wtf (no wonder I didnt get any bites).Once I got my poles set up, I was able to hook into a keeper, about 8", caught on a bullet sinker/bead/swivel with a tiny Silver Kastmaster, he put up such a fight. The last fish I caught on a egg sinker/bead/swivel (a little heavier than the bullet weight) with a medium size silver spoon, It was a decent size Trout he put up one hell of a fight he got airborne at least 5-6 times, but once I landed him I had that good feeling again, the one I remember from so long ago and the reason this is one of my favorite lakes. Sadly trolling on the way back to the launch, I snagged something on the bottom and lost the entire spoon rig. It was a strange day 3 trout released 2 to take home.

The bigger fish of the 2 looks like a cutthroat

Thanks for the clarification, I had done some research online, but wasn't really sure if it was a cutty, My First of the Year!

Best way to distinguish it from a rainbow is the pinkish line that runs across the lateral line. Rainbows have it and cutthroat don’t. You could look for the slash under the jaw but that isn’t always present.
