Had a couple great days on Lake Washington Weds and Fri.

Monsoon/typhoon blowing on Weds afternoon. We fished the east side from Juanita Bay up to Hunts Pt. Water was rough, wind blowing and rain coming in sideways. Only managed one fish up near Hunts Pt. Old Goat pink OG1 behind a Sling Blade did the trick. In spite of the weather we had a great time. Not exactly a 5 star catching day but combined with Friday it was definitely 5 star for the two days.

Friday I was fishing solo. Decided to give the west side a try. WOW what a difference. Fished Magnuson Pk to Wolf Bay area. Dropped the line down right off Magnuson in about 60 fow and fish on almost immediately. Caught 5 really nice cutties in about 2 hours. C&R all but one. Nice fish 16-20 inches. Brass spinner with worm chunk behind a Sling Blade gotter done!!!!

Tight lines

Your sling blade looks like it has almost an inch of bend in it...... at 1.8mph that thing must be just about to spin circles huh? What length leader and dodger size do you run? Ive never been completely clear on how much dodger action cutts like. Thanks for the 5 star report!

Cutties seem to like the twitch twitch action. Actually thats the first time I have put that much bend in one. Leader length about 14 inches. When you bend one drag it alongside the boat to see what the action looks like. Adjust your speed accordingly.

Great report Randy. I will be on the lake on Tuesday and Thursday for a bass/cutty combo trip.

Randy, glad to see that you did well on the big lake. For my money, its pretty hard to beat certain key spots in the north half of the the big lake. The fish tend to be on the average bigger, chunkier and more broad shouldered than are the Cuttthroat at Lake Sammamish. They can put up a heck of a battle on a nice light rod. If you know how to approach the big lake as you do, you can really experience some outstanding fishing. The biggest down side fishing the big lake can be rough water if it gets windy. After a not so good outing on Lake Sammamish last week, my fishing partner and I will be back to hitting the big lake at some point this week but somewhat north of where you were most recently fishing. We primarily use a Sling Blade with the Ace Hi Fly Junior in the #344 Blue Spatter Back color configuration . We experience consistent success with it. That color combination tends to imitate the Cutthroat's favorite bait fish in the big lake. I think the Old Goat lure with its outstandingly more erratic action or movement in the OG1/2.44 size would likely be equally if not more productive if it were available with a scaling look to it in shades of blue, white and silver not too dissimilar to the manufacturers offering in the OG2 series. Hopefully the manufacturer of Old Goat lures will at some point come out with such a product.

LOL yeah the big lake can get pretty bumpy. Weds was just a warm up for MA10 on Saturday morning. Dayam it got rough off Jeff Head. We had to run for cover over in Kingston for a while until it calmed down.
