Randy: I know you are one of the best when it comes to Cutthroat fishing the two large lakes, Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish. DJ Butler certainly falls in that same level of skill classification especially as it applies to Lake Washington. No matter what our skill levels are as fishermen, we all take a skunking from time to time. The area that you fished south of McAleer Creek has foiled me and my fishing partner on occasion too so don't feel bad. Successful Cutthroat fishing in that area and in all other areas of Lake Washington, as I'm sure you are well aware, is highly dependent on finding the location of the bait fish on your fish finder that make up Lake Washington's Cutthroat diet. I prefer to use a lure that imitates the bait fish. If you don't find sizable concentrations of bait fish over a reasonable period of time, that's a signal you need to move to another area. When the area that you fished south of McAleer Creek fails to produce for us, we run over to the east side of the lake and a bit south and do a troll between Campaign Point and Juanita Point. If that fails us and as a last resort, we will fish the area out from Juanita Bay. The Cutthroat that I'm finding at this time seem to be in the 30 to 45 foot depth area and they are fairly close to the bottom of the lake. One thing that I find very essential is to place the lure at least 180 feet or more behind the boat so as not to spook the fish. Good luck.
