My fishing partner and I hit the north end of Lake Washington this morning from the Magnuson Park boat launch. From there we fished one of our favorite spots which is somewhat south of McAleer Creek using downriggers set at between 30 and 45 feet using multfacited Sling Blades, 16 inches of 10# flourocarbon leader tied to our favorite Ace-Hi Fly Junior in the #344 color configuration. We applied Smelly Jelly Trout Feast to the head end only of the Ace Hi Fly Junior. While we were on the water for about 4 hours, we hooked into a total of 11 Cutthroat and had a number of missed strikes, however, we were only able to bring 4 Cuththroat into the boat all of which were 15 to 18 inches inches in size and they were all very broad shouldered which is typical of the Cutthroat found in the big lake. We lost one real dandy size fish we estimated to be around 20 to 22 inches. After a good battle, we got it within 20 feet of our boat. At that point, it did a beautiful somersault and spit the hook. It just was not our day for connecting solidly into the fish. Some days, you just can't seem to win. It was just nice to be out on the water enjoying a very nice fishing morning with a long time friend.
