We fished Potholes 8/2-8/3 targeting the elusive walleye. Sunday afternoon was a complete bust fishing the Crab Creek area. No fish for 5 hours with 3 lines in the water. Monday morning we decided to try a different spot and we headed up the west shore from the state park. About a mile up we found a likely looking spot and proceeded to put lines in the water. Within a few minutes we had a pair of nice (18in) rainbow in the boat. Not our preferred species but at least some action. We remained in the same general area and did catch a few walleye along with 6 rainbow and a couple catfish. Biggest walleye were 22 and 20 in. The trout were all about 18 in.

We went in for lunch at noon as one of our group had to head home for work the next day.

That afternoon we again targeted walleye but only caught 2 trout and 2 more catfish which were released. Early afternoon. the wind started to blow harder so we quit early with only 2 trout for supper.

Monday morning we hit the same spot again with high hopes but only caught 1trout and 2more catfish. All fish were caught on slow death with pieces of crawler. Color didn't seem to make much difference as we changed often without much change in results. We did wander north a little further into some water where I had not been before but no luck there either. We passed by the Big Dune on the way back to camp and saw a guide boat working there so gave a quick try there with the same poor results.
Time to head home and try to beat holiday traffic which we did not manage to do. Took us 45 minutes waiting in the Exit line for Highway 18. That place is getting dangerous.
