I tried...
A nice sunny day but needed to wait til it cooled off a bit. I stocked up with large cups of ice, mini cooler with fresh worms, a magical cooling cloth, 100spf sunscreen, & my large sunhat with a scarf around it to protect my lily white (easily burnable) skin. I'm not going for Miss America when I head out. Although I did try a new purple eye shadow today.
Took my little fishing raft out of my piece-of-crap car, got er ready, awkwardly plopped myself in it & proceeded to get blown around... Even with my anchor down! I was surprised how much wind there was on the lake with not a cloud in the sky.
I tried top fishing with a bobber. Then adjusted it to be longer thinking they must be down further where the water would be colder. Not sure what temp the water was but it was warm. No luck with the bobber. Had a small nibble when i tossed it into the spot where I saw a bait ball of little fish swimming for their dear lives. Figured something good was under it but alas... It just taunted me to give me a small glimmer of hope as I watched the bobber move (not of my own volition). It just ate the bottom of my worm & steared clear of the hook. I swear, they are on to me!
I tried casting a small jelly fish with a spinner... Figured if they were chasing little fish, one might chase mine... But no luck.
Then i tried the ol power bait. Chartruese with garlic scent & that is when the wind really started to kick my rear. I had to real up because I was being drug across the lake- anchor and all! A couple of expletives may have escaped my mouth & I had to chuckle at myself. If I was watching this fiasco from shore, I would have chuckled a bit too. Juggling a couple poles, giant sunhat in the way, scarf blowing in my face, almost spilling my drink. Pretty sure the fish were mocking me too.
It was a good work out rowing from the side of the lake back to just off the center. I'm not a small woman (and I'm totally ok with that) but bulking up my arms is probably not a good idea as I am line-backer sized already. If everyday fishing was like today, paint me green & I'd be kin to the incredible hulk.
My favorite 'hole' on Blackman's has served me well in the past but today, the fish flipped me the fin as they swam by.
I haven't seen any stocking reports for triploids this season... At this point, I'm doubtful it will happen. If you're still reading this & you're in Snohomish county... Anyone know if we're getting big fish stocked this year (other than the kids side if Gissberg ponds)? Were the big fish replaced with green tagged derby fish?
