We hiked into this lake mostly just as a place to refill our water and make camp for the night. Some of the small alpine lakes in this area have been stocked with trout so we decided to bring the fishing rods. After fishing the lake for a few hours it became apparent that there are no fish in this particular lake.

The lake was so clear and shallow you could see pretty much the whole bottom from any point around the lake. I would estimate an average depth of about 8-10ft. Bugs (particularly mosquitos) were everywhere. I did not see a single fish rise to feed that night or the next morning. We talked to another group who had camped the night before and they reported seeing no fish rise either. This lake does however have an abundance of waterdogs. Our best guess was that the lake is not deep enough for the fish to survive the ice in winter.

Long Mountain Lake is absolutely gorgeous and an awesome place to camp (but bring mosquito nets). Just wanted to give a heads up to any fisherman wanting to hike this area that this lake is fishless.
