First time reading this site. Very interesting to read Jeff's post of my eagle experience of 7/5/03. Trolling the mid to north end of Sammamish for cutts, using a spinnner and worm combo we hooked a nice 3-4 lb trout on 6lb fireline. He was about 100' from the boat when a full grown bald eagle came off the Eastern shore and dove at the fish. I jerked him hard, the eagle missed but was not to be denied. We( the eagle, the fish and I) all battled for several minutes until the fish was 20' from the transom. The eagle then swooped down, grabbed the trout and showed me the nicest cutt I have ever hooked while he grabbed for air. He shot North, spooled my rig (since I guess he weighed more than 6 lbs), then dropped the whole deal back in the lake. Eagles apparently like unfettered meals. We motored over, but the fish had sunk out of sight. Worth losing the fish for a great story.
