I’m giving this a 5, not for the number of fish but for the company and experience gained. Randy (rmrauscher) kindly volunteered to help my wife and me get first blood on the deck of our new boat. Up until now, we had been fishing Lake Washington , getting used to the boat and targeting cutthroat ( without much luck). We were anxious to get out in the salt but a bit hesitant since we hadn’t fished the sound from our own boat before. We met Randy at Shileshole at 0530 and trolled for an hour near Shilshole but nothing was happening so headed to Kingston, Apple Tree Cove, which was packed with boats. We trolled around the outside of the pack and with no takes decided to head to Jeff Head. Midway my rod pops off the dr and it’s fish on, a nice feisty hatchery chinook on a flasher and spoon at 80 feet on the dr in 120fow. About 10 mins later Randy’s rod starts bouncing and he lands a nice hatchery coho, 80 feet on the dr using a flasher and OG2.
Not only did we get the blood on the deck but we got on heck of a education from Randy and some great memories from our maiden trip on the salt. Thanks Randy!
