Had a couple great days in MA10 this last week chasing Chinook and Coho. Five star rating is an understatement to say the least.
Fished Tues, Weds and Fri. Ended up with 10 really nice Chinook and 8 Coho to the net. Two of the Chinook were wild ones and 4 hatchery fish were caught on Friday (after closure) so they went back in the water. WOW really nice fish, est 10-14lbs. Coho were average resident size except for 2 which looked a lot like early summer runs.
We fished mornings in the main areas, Shilshole/Meadow Pt, Jeff Head, Apple Tree Cove and the oil docks. Totally wiffed it on Apple Tree Cove and oil docks. Lines in the water about 6:30, off the water by noon all three days.
Friday was especially memorable. Since Chinook closed Thurs at midnight I was thinking Coho so I left the salmon poles at home and used light tackle. As luck would have it, the first 4 fish were nice Chinook. Talk about a fight, screamin reel and pole bent in half. What a hoot!!!! My wrists and shoulders are trashed.
Fish were caught in 150-250 fow with anywhere from 65-150 on the cable. They are where they are. Picture shows the tackle we used. The one thing I did change was using shorter leaders, 30-35" total leader length, end of flasher to head of lure. Really seemed to do the trick. Also used a herring teaser except on the Old Goats just ran a little scent.
Tight lines
Randy
