Fished MA10 for the first time this AM. Got on the water around 530 and was fishing by before 6. This was my first time targeting salmon in the salt out of my boat. Got some great pointers from members on this site to point me in the right direction.
Started out with a pro-troll flasher and squid with insert and herring strip. Down 30ft on the DR. Got a drive by 10 min in then nothing for the next 20min.
Decided to switch to flasher and herring. 2 min after the switch I got a 10lb hatch king to the boat, then kicked it loose.
I was trolling at 3.5mph mostly, found that it would destroy the cut plug herring pretty quickly. Switched to the toothpick, halfhitch around the nose with a bend in the herring. Hooked three coho in the next 1.5 hrs, lost all three near the boat. Conclusion was i need to keep the boat in gear next time. Did that with the king, didnt do it with the next three bites. Not sure why i changed.
Caught one shaker and had 2 other drive bys.
Morning definitely had the most action. Had a coho blow up on my herring 20ft behind the boat as i was hooking to the DR. Pretty cool to see, the herring was just skating on the surface.
Got some things figured out for next time. Looking forward to more fish moving in.
