8/28/2018 3:58:04 PMOh, OK, leader definately not the problem then. My son and I fished the lake one time for tigers and we were lucky enough to each catch one. We were using mono leaders but we were tossing crankbaits and they pinned the tigers mouth shut and they could not bite the leaders. We did have another fish clip the leader and take off with the plug. I vowed if I ever fished the lake again I would use wire leaders. Pic of my tiger on the lake info page of this site.

I'm sold on the custom flourocarbon leaders I've been using for years, I used wire my first 3 years and didn't like how they could fold over and crimp. Plus I found they adversely affect the action of some cranks and glide baits.
By the way, when were those pictures taken? It's amazing how much the lake has changed in some of them.

8/29/2018 9:32:11 AMI have an article on this site about that fishing trip. Go to stories and Articles and type in Tiger Muskie. My story is the 5th one. I never did get back to Mayfield and fish it again. Alas, now it is too late - old age has caught up with me. No regrets - I fished a lot of lakes and caught a lot of fish.

8/30/2018 12:30:16 PMOh yes - There are many lakes I would like to fish again and several more I would like to fish for the first time. I have fished 354 lakes in Washington and caught bass from 282 of them. And, several lakes I would like to try a few different lures. Some of the lakes I fished didn't seem to have any bass but now are reported to have a good population of largemouth or smallmouth -- or both. Anyway, I feel I have no reason to complain - Old age happens to everyone if the live long enough.
