I finished a second and last trip to Sekiu Tuesday. The fishing was very good and overall combining the two trips it was one of the best Coho seasons in recent memory. Lots of fish and good size.
Unlike my earlier trip during Labor Day week, there were a lot more wild fish around. My ratio was about 3/1 wild to hatchery which reversed the late August ratio of 3/1 hatchery to wild. Fortunately there were good numbers of fish. The weather was wet, very wet. Probably 2-3 inches of rain over a three day period.
I fished light, a small blade, salmon sized Mack’s wiggle hoochie with herring strip and a 2 ounce sinker at 50 feet, 2.5 mph. Lots of fun with 8-12 pound Coho!
Others were catching even more fish than I was but I caught 3-5 per day, fishing 2-3 hours. It was better in the morning than evening.
