Had a friend come over to fish from Wenatchee after he saw my report about limiting off of Meadow Point last Tuesday. Sunday we had lines in the water at 6:45 and the first fish at about 7:30. My friend landed a nice 7lb hook nose in about 300ft of water with 40ft of wire out. He was using a purple haze flasher and a hootchie that I made that was kind of purple and pink UV with a modified bucktail insert. I've actually caught more coho with this rig than any other. We had a couple of really nice take downs soon after and we were thinking that maybe the bite was coming on. But, NOO!! We fished through the tide change at about 10:30 or so with nothing. My buddy stayed with my special hootchie while I threw everything in the tackle-box at them. I was talking to a friend that was fishing Skunk Bay in area 9 and (no pun intended) he got skunked. We decided to motor over to the Oil Docks and once again nothing.

About 11:30 we decided to go back to Meadow and didn't see any action for ourselves nor did we see any nets out either. About noon we decided that it was such a beautiful day we would troll our way back to the Kingston Marina and call it a day. We saw lots of fish from 80ft to 200ft but they seemed to have lock-jaw. We were in the shipping lanes with an ocean going tug pointed at us and bam, I've got a fish. I was using a white pearl spoon with a green glow mini squid and a no-banana's flasher. We were in 900ft of water with 120ft of wire. Great fish, great fight and the tug missed us with room to spare.

When we trailered the boat the fish checker was waiting on us. She told us that out of 74 interviews counting ours she only logged a total of 20 fish for the day. After talking with her we felt pretty blessed to have been some of the fortunate fishermen on Sunday.

Great report. Funny as it may sound these are my favorite kind of days, when you really have to work for it. When fishing is good anybody can do it. When its not so good the real fishermen seem to find the fish. Nice job!!!

I went out one day last week just before the gill netters showed up (not that that means anything just a reference point) and we limited in about 45 minutes. Then, motored back to Kingston, tied the boat up and went home to clean fish. All this before 9 am. Sunday we spent almost 8 hours, got two fish and enjoyed the entire day on the water. Yeah, it's nice to catch limits but there is also something to be said for quality time with a friend and still catching a couple of nice fish to boot.

I've also noticed that the bite seems to come on right around 7-7:30 and it's over by 8:30-9. I'll be out again tomorrow for the next 3 days - hopefully we'll get some!

Yep, I'm going to be out tomorrow too. I've got some minor back surgery on Friday so it's gonna screw up fishing for a few days.
