JoAnn and I hit Lake Washington for a shot at some coho. We launch at crack o dawn and ran across the lake to fish the Kirkland slot and off Yarrow Point. Not a lot of fish marks in the slot but Yarrow Point had pretty decide clusters of fish, all of them not biting.

We ran the usual two downriggers and kept the gear 10-15 feet off the bottom. I mixed up large and small plugs, with scent, with herring strip wraps. Nothing matter. Called it a day at 11am.

On a positive note, trolling in close quarters with an electric bow mount for steering in addition to my kicker was pretty awesome. Best upgrade of the year for my boat!

Ive been doing the same with the wireless ipilot bow mount and kicker motor. It was a life saver in the puget sound when it got choppy this year!

I did not get the saltwater version so nope, not in the salt with it.

Have you tried jigging for them? In my long ago Lake WA days, we would find a concentration of fish and attempt to stay on them and use various jigging spoons (PT. Wilson Darts, Hopkins, Crippled Herring, etc.) to entice a bite.

I use a Terrova bowmount and a '78 Honda BF75 (7.5 hp). Have not Trolled any other way since I got it set up. Set a course and forget about it. When I hook a fish I kill the OB first then hit spot lock while keeping tension on the line. My 'to the boat' fish increased after starting that instead of maintaining trolling speed.
Any time can be bad on the big lake but when it is good it can be a lot of fun. I usually go after panfish if the bigger fish are reluctant.

Hey Mike, we launched from the Kenmore boat ramp. Just outside the slough the coho were jumping everywhere. They are definitely on the move and rather lock jaw as you’ve experienced.

I use the salt version of the Ulterra the same way out in the salt. I found that the battery was gone after a couple of hours if I used it exclusively for trolling. But I found that if I use the kicker for forward and the Ulterra for steering, I can keep my trolling motor setting under 5, which allows about 20 hours of trolling before time to charge them. Since I fish alone mostly, the setup has made it easy for me to handle the boat and a fish on at the same time. When I hook up, I slow the forward momentum and point my trolling motor to turn the boat so that I can net the fish on the side of my choice. Works like a charm! Enjoy your new setup.

Fishh - yup, it's a great tool. I can run the downriggers w/o having the boat do spins in lakes. I'm sure it's just as helpful in the salt.
