The Tin Guppy sails again, and what a pleasant voyage. Actually several voyages back to back. Got the boat and the travel trailer down to Ft. Spokane the afternoon of the 14th and fished Monday thru Sunday. What a gift Roosevelt is. The weather was fantastic, down to a T-shirt by noon on most days and afternoon and evenings just downright beautiful.
I sent an invitation out to all the local trout in the Spokane Arm via my Kekeda flies and it was pretty much standing room only. Had to turn some away at the door. Just had a ball hooking up and landing the rainbows. The Orange Kekeda is the go to lure in my arsenal but we also found that Pink was a hot color. We were starting to believe that Pink was best in the morning and then the Perch and finish the day with Orange. Not enough evidence to be absolutely sure so I will have to get back down there gather some more data. It also seemed to me that I was getting more holdovers from Porcupine and above than I was getting in the mouth of the arm. Again the data is inconclusive and will require further analysis. The biggest keeper I weighed was 3.9 LBS and I released a wild one that was a fair amount longer and heavier. Had some friends come out and join me and it was a real pleasure to put them over so many cooperative fish. It was a week that will always be a great memory.
Made some half hearted tries at Walleye with encouragement from TiredMark who was camped next to me. The deep bite is something the Guppy and I are just not really setup for. Mark sure has a sweet setup on his boat. I managed 3 nice keepers, 1 each on 3 consecutive days and then went back to having fun. For the most part I trolled around 3 MPH, 15 to 20 feet. On Sunday I put 4 in the boat with my purple Kekeda fly behind a Pink Arrowfast flasher, something I consider to be a Kokanee setup. Like I say, they were excited about the invitation.
Stay after them everybody, its the right thing to do.

Some folks will use any excuse to go fishing - I just may have to use your's - I think it will work here. Guess I'll have to tie
up some more and different colors for beta tests - back to Swede's for more bucktail - thanks for the report on the success
of different colors.

Nice report. We just love Roosevelt this time of year and into the winter. The fishing just gets better, now thru the end of March . We have also got a few holdovers in our favorite spots up the Spokane arm. I just wish they would get the road fixed so we can launch at P. Bay this year. I heard the road caved away again. Makes for a long run up river from Fort Spokane. But I guess if the fish are biting, its worth it. Tight lines, and be safe..... Terry

I would say 12-14 miles, 30 to 40 minutes for the Guppy.

Leader length from flasher to fly and amount of worm used?

Leader length didn't really seem to be a factor. My buddy Jim caught fish using a favorite Kokanee rig that was 10 inches of leader behind a Pink Arrow fast flasher. He also used pink artificial maggots as I did on Sunday behind the Purple Kekeda fly and the Pink Arrow Fast, leader length on that rig was around 2 feet maybe. Worms were just a bit hanging off the main hook.

Part-Time: Hi. I have only fished Roosevelt twice and had a great time each trip out. But I’ve never fished in the area of the Spokane Arm that you’re talking about. Would you mind sharing with me approximately how far a run it is from the Fort Spokane launch up to above the Porkey Pine Bay Area? I love fishing this time of year too. I have a 1650 Lund Renegade /40 hp Honda that’ll run comfortably about 25 mph. Not sure how long it might take me to get to that area. Thanks for any assistance. Help is appreciated.

Hey Denny,
I run about that speed also and it takes around 30 minutes give or take. Up, back and trolling was 4+ gallons on my 75 Merc and 8 HP Nissan. It's a pretty ride. The Tin Guppy is a 93 16ft Sea Runner so if there is much chop on the water it takes longer. Great to fish out of, not a great ride. You'll like it up there.

I’ve had great success with Kekeda type flies on Roosevelt too, but more down lower near Spring Canyon and Plum Creek, Hanson Harbor areas. I’ve been using Old Goat1’s also with many successful days on the water as well. How’s the fishing up above Porkey Pine Bay area above where the river narrows down? I’m thinking about giving that area a try too. Thanks again for your help.

My last trip down river was not very productive(Keller Ferry). Seems that there more fish upriver right now. There are good reports from the Hunters area which I know nothing about. There are just lots of good areas up the arm and the ones I have spent the most time in are from Porcupine and above. Still plenty of places that I haven't tried in that area and I keep learning something new each time. I just like the look and the feel up there. But then there is also Sterling Point to Keller Ferry which is great and can be very productive. It's all good and I still have a bunch to learn, will have to keep sampling data.
