Another stirring tale of hardship and adventure from the logbook of "Tin Guppy".
What a crazy day on the Spokane Arm. Finally managed to get my son and grandson gathered up so we could all fish together, been awhile since the 3 of us have been able to get out for a day on the Guppy. We launched out of Ft. Spokane before 9 and headed upriver. I had been thinking that the fish were moving up and the bigger ones moved first so we went up the narrows beyond buoy 5. I had thought about going all the way to the pool below the dam but we got cold and decided to start fishing sooner. Trolled for 45 minutes or so and never had a nibble so back down the river we went. Found some Rainbows and starting getting hits pretty regularly. Those 2 goof balls lost more than we netted but we had a great time doing it . The pink shrimp fly from Capt. Dave was the clear cut winner for the day. Got hits on every fly we tried but none on the spinner baits. No dodgers ,no down riggers. One leaded line and two with 5/8 ounce trolling weights. Never did clear up like the weather report predicted but we had a lot of fun. Sure wish they would get that Porcupine Bay road open, takes me a good 30 minutes to run back down to Ft. Spokane. Seems like the fish are putting on weight at a good rate, these fish seemed heavier on average than the ones I got in October. Biggest one was 19" at 2.3 LBS. Maybe a 4 is a bit high but we had too much fun to make it a 3.
