I grew up in Mount Vernon, but somehow never fished Clear Lake. Went swimming there a lot. Decided to give this lake a try for the first time. Read some past reports here, loaded up the Hobie and headed out. Not a real early start for me, around 9am by the time I had lines in the water.


To start off I decided to troll the whole lake to get a feel for where the fish were, how deep it was where etc. I spent a little bit of time chasing quite a few marks down near bottom towards the south end of the lake, which wound up being crappie. After a bit of exploring, I pretty much got dialed in to the lake and began catching fish. When I arrived, the water clarity was not very good, a foot or less of visibility. I assumed that I would need something extra flash like a dodger on my line to get the attention of the fish, this wound up not being the case. Fish were all caught at about the 5 foot depth mark. There was a hatch happening almost the whole time I was out and fish were slurping on the surface.


A 50/50 Elgin Fishing God's Tooth Spoon did the majority of the work. No dodger on it, no bait, just right out of the package. On the other line I ran a variety of set ups, incliding a wedding ring/worm/dodger combo, dodger/woolley bugger, a little mini gang troll with a wedding ring and worm etc. I got 1 on a God's tooth pink kokanee set up, and 1 at the end on a God's Tooth orange top spoon.


Speed seemed to be around 1.5 to get the fish, and the water temp was around 48 all morning.
