My fishing partner and I gave Lake Sanmamish another try over this past weekend fishing both Saturday and Sunday. We fished a number of different areas that were north, south, east and west on the lake while targeting for the Cutthroat. In approximately 5 hours of largely morning fishing time each day, we found the fishing to be on the slow side catching and releasing a total of 3 to 4 fish each day mostly in the 10 to 14 inch size range and one on Sunday that appeared to be around 16 inches. From what we can tell, the winter cutthroat fishery on the lake has yet to kick into high gear as it has in past years at this time. Although we were not targeting them due to a mandatory catch and release restrictions, we also caught and carefully released a couple of 12 inch Kokanee. We will give the lake a rest for a couple of weeks hoping for better fishing into mid to late December..

great report. how deep were you fishing? the fish are still holding deeper than I would expect for this time of year.

FastactionGS, we tried depths from 20 to 50 feet with our downriggers this past Saturday and Sunday. Just could not seem to connect with any amount of fish and my Lowrance fish finder showed very few fish. We were fishing primarily in waters of the lake that were 60 to 75 feet deep. Could it be the Cutthroat are feeding in close to shore or near the lake bottom where we are not fishing? In years past at this same time, the fishing in the above described waters has been quite good. I guess you will have to show us how its done.
