Myself and two other anglers fished an Olympic Peninsula river targeting hatchery steelhead for two days late last week. The fishing, I would say, was slow at best. We had about seven bites over two days and only managed to land a couple late wild silvers. After chatting with other anglers and the local park ranger where we were at, it seems the early run of steelhead just hasn’t quite shown up yet. Most of our bites came pulling plugs through slow, deep edges and we had a few bobber downs drifting bait along the bottom. We spent the rest of the time swinging flies through tail-outs and threw a little bit of hardware through them as well. The water and outside air temps were on the extreme low end so I’m suspecting that wasn’t helping our chances.
