Barely a 3 but the fact that we were the only ones there was pretty cool. Pretty nasty when we left the Spokane Valley but no real problems and by the time we got to Ft. Spokane the roads were dry and the water was like glass. Nobody else in the Parking lot when we arrived and no one else when we took out. The other thing missing besides boats and fisherman was a decent bite. We had a pretty steady bite in the morning but we just couldn't get them to the boat. When I hook into a fish with a Kekeda fly and get him half way to the boat I Expect to land him. Not today, they would just pull off and be gone. Then in the afternoon the bite just turned off all together. Picked up a couple right before we left. Wasn't doing anything different than usual but the fish were making sport of me. But over all it was a nice day, far nicer than predicted and having the whole river to ourselves was kind of fun.
The were still working on the slide, the retaining wall seems to get bigger and bigger.
Well we will be back out there soon, I don't take being treated like this well. They can turn up their lip and laugh at me today but we will see who laughs last.

Thanks for a great report - makes me about ready to put the batteries back in and go for a cruise. I suspect if we all had a dollar for

Glad to hear the forecast didn't materialize but too bad the fish followed the forecast. Any day fishing is a good day...fish in the box or not. Sometimes I'm pleased I don't have to clean any when we take out. Thanks for your report!! :-)

Mark: Some days ya get em easily, other days ya don't. Thats why it's fishing and not always catching. Main thing is you were out enjoying our great outdoors. Thinking about getting the boat out next week to see if any of the fish might be in a biting mood over here in SW Wash. Either at Merwin for jokes, or Newhatzel for rainbows. Wish me luck. Were they by chance smaller Kokanee? I had a day a few years back with similar results. It was extremely frustrating. Although, I finally boated a 10'' Koke.

I considered that but really doubt it. They felt heavy and were sighted sometimes. It just seems that sometimes they hit the lure differently is my best guess. I had a morning on the Thompson River a couple of years ago when me and my buddy who is a top notch fly fisher turned 8 fish right in a row and never got a one to stick. It just happens. Trying to do better is what keeps us going back. We hooked fish from 22 ft to right on the surface with several different offerings. Kind of a hot tamale orange Apex was starting to produce some action but broke off on the second fish. Another trip to the Elephant. The Orange Kekeda produced the first couple of hookups at 22ft and then a little hot pink hoochie on leaded line got some hits. Larry got one to the boat with one of the little Brads Super baits with no added sent and then landed one on a Perch Kekeda. Not much by way of consistency, maybe they had all been out partying , beyond me. Been up the Arm all fall hoping to limit early and then try to find some Burbot, about ready for some different scenery, maybe Lincoln and below next time.

There may be Andy, reported in Thursday's S-R that a few small kokanee (didn't say what small was) have been caught below Spring Canyon launch. Can read online here - http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2018/dec/12/alan-lieres-fishing-hunting-report-for-dec-13/

Also note the 2 Lake Roosevelt items in the Heads Up sidebar, "Disposing of fish parts or remains within 200 feet of docks, swimming beaches, or developed areas on Lake Roosevelt is prohibited. Judging by the number of fish carcasses under the dock at popular launches, a lot of people are unaware of this rule. This is solely a National Park Service rule (not a state rule) which can carry a $75 fine if cited by Park Service Enforcement. This rule is intended to maintain cleanliness in areas frequented by people". I see carcasses and skin in the water at Seven Bays launch almost every time I launch/recover. The second deals with anglers apparently giving creel checkers grief in collecting survey info. They're not enforcement, can't cite anyone, and don't ask for name, address, or license (I've never been asked for that info). They are just collecting catch data. :-/
