My fishing partner and I hit the water at the boat launch site at 9:00 AM. Very few guys were fishing on the lake today. We counted 4 vehicles with boat trailers in the parking areas as we entered the lake. Since we had such good luck using the Elgin God's Tooth lure a week or so ago, we immediately rigged up with the same half/half gold/silver God's Tooth lure behind a 4 1/2 inch sling blade which had silver on one side and sliver with a silver faceted inlay on the other side. Our destination for today's trip was the north half of the lake on the west side opposite from Weber Point which is on the east side of the lake. We no more than got our down riggers out with a depth setting of 25 and 30 feet in 60 to 75 feet of water with 70 yards of mono extended behind the boat than we got into a quick double. We landed and then carefully released both of those fish back to the lake. They were Cutthroat of about 14 to 15 inches.
Although we marked very few fish on the Lowrance in the early going, with that fast start, we thought we were in for quite a good day of fishing. As it turned out, we went the next 2 hours without even encountering a single strike which was incredibly discouraging. About 11:30 AM through about 1:30 PM, fish began showing up on the fish finder and our luck changed for the better in the same general area but in slightly deeper water.. We began to experience consistent fish strikes about every 10 to 15 minutes fishing depths between 70 and 85 feet. During that period, we landed and then carefully released 10 Cutthroat back to the lake one of which was around 18 inches. We also caught and released back to the lake a 13 inch adipose fin clipped Coho. It appeared that rain clouds were headed toward the lake so we quickly pulled out at 2:00 PM and headed for home. The way the God's Tooth lure has treated us the last couple of times on the lake, my fishing partner and I are now very firm believers in that lure. We want to give them a try on Lake Washington to see how they do on that water. If any of you are in need of the God's Tooth lure, we can tell you the folks at Ted's Sports Center in Lynnwood at least up until a week or so ago had a sizable inventory in many different patterns and colors.
