Overcast day with no wind and minimal chance of rain. Pressure was rising steadily (which I thought was good). A friend wanted to go fishing to go fishing, so we planned to be on the water around 10-2. Everything was aligning perfectly for my 6th or so time out on any of our larger lakes in the area! ...or so I thought.
Dropped the boat at the launch, without any hiccup. Ijumped into the boat and my friend followed quickly. Normally this isn’t an issue as I’ve never had any issues starting my outboard. Well, it wasn’t starting. Realized I left my keys in “on” and it drained my battery. After connecting my motor to my trolling motor battery, it started immediately! So 20 mins lost...it’s okay! Thankfully no other issues the rest of the day.
Hit the water and found a large school of birds which resulted in finding a large hatch just north of the weather station. Again! Getting excited! But didn’t see a single fish surface, and couldn’t buy a bite. Marked a few fish super deep around 60’ but couldn’t get a bite on top or bottom. Saw 3 other boats and didn’t see action there either.
Ran further north and fished around 50-70ft deep, I think. Ran back to the mouth of the creek. Marked a few fish but still no luck. Threw everything in the box at them. Dick nite and seps dodgers and RMT sling blades. Wiggle hoochies, God’s Tooth Spoons, and spinners. Tipped with worms, or without. Was really hoping the God’s tooth with help turn the tides since I just got them but if nothing else, the action looks awesome.
1.1-1.8mpg. Surface down to 60’ and actually got my downrigger got hung up for the first time. What a ride that was. Thankfully I got everything back.
Beautiful day but it was rough fishing. Hope next time I have better results to show for it.
