In a recent forum topic, here on NW Fishing, I was talking with "The Quadfather" about his nearly identical boat setup that he's still putting together. We talked a lot about about how I did my 16 foot Lund boat, and what I was or was not happy with....etc...etc.. We decided we should just meet and go fishing. The forecast was terrible, but I was dying to try out my new 150 dollar bimini top from a recent online purchase. (once again, the weather man was wrong, and the top never went up anyway)

Next morning, we met at the Gene Coulon boat launch. I intended to get there a little early and get set up, but I instead was was greeted at the launch at 845 am with a paid boat launch ticket stub for my windshield! Thanks Quad!

Lines in around 9, we dropped two downriggers down with our own confidence lure choices. He had no problems dropping the scotty downrigger equipment down and was obviously an experienced fisherman! We trolled around the south end of Mercer for about three hours, cover quite a lot of water, but only picked up one cutt at 60ft on the wire. I gloated a little bit about how I saw the mark on the finder and dropped my dick nite spoon/dodger combo right to the fish for a near instant hook-up! But that was it for the day..... and now I have to admit that it was likely just dumb luck..... It was a pretty nice 17ish inch (didnt measure) cutthroat trout with some decent girth to it. I threw it in livewell, which got us talking about how the Lund livewells work. So, not a great day of catching, but maybe fairly successful for quad's decision making process in setting up his new boat electrical systems and trolling motors...etc... Around Noon we packed it up and headed for the launch, as we were both coincidentally headed for the northwestfishingreports.com's NWFTV live debut party in Snohomish later on that evening.

I am very glad to have met Quadfather for the first time, and look forwards to him inviting me out for a fishing trip on his new 16ft Lund soon..... Hint... Hint...... Lol! Me and this guy are drastically different people that are oddly and dangerously similar in some ways. I'm a greasy gearhead mechanic that towes with dented up smokey diesel pick up, he works in the medical field and rolls up in a shiny new looking suv, but I'm pretty sure we could get so distracted talking about stuff that we could get forget to fish! Look forwards to doin' it again!

This is a great example for me of the best aspect of NWFR. It is great to meet up with a like-minded person, and really get into swapping ideas, and learning from other people. Thanks Sideburns for a great time in your boat, and for all the great info. regarding setting up this boat, I-Pilot, batteries, etc. etc.

We will definetely hit up the water again soon!

Exactly, guys. The only gripe I've ever had about my boat is the number of empty seats. Sharing a day on the water is often so much better than going solo.
